Stokley Carmichael and Martin Luther King's views on Civil Rights

Image
Much has been written about the relationship between MLK and Carmichael. The media reported that there were deep divisions between the two men. There were differences, but they were not based on violence or non-violence.  Carmichael felt that blacks had a right to self-defense and a right to control institutions within their communities. This is why he called for "Black Power".

A copy of the Gramma Newspaper. It was the official paper of the Communist Party of Cuba. The BBP had an unofficial relationship with Cuba. Many of our educational pamphlets were produced in Cuba and China. The problem we had with Cuba was it's relationship with the Soviet Union. We were influenced by the Chinese Revolution, so we followed the teaching of Mao. We carried Mao's little red book in our pocket while working in the community. Mao felt the the Communist Party of the soviet Union had become an revisionist party.

Manifesto of the Black Workers Congress

Image
Black Workers Congress From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Black Worker’s Congress (BWC) was created in 1971 in response to a manifesto written by the League of Revolutionary Black Workers (League). The BWC would be a separate organization that would be used to expand the League across the United States . The BWC was also used to coordinate Revolutionary Union Movement and Black Workers caucuses. The mission of the BWC: “Our objective: workers' control of their place of work, the factories, fields, offices, transportation services, and communications facilities, so that the exploitation of labor will cease and no person or corporation will get rich off the labor of another person. All people will work for the collective benefit of humanity.”( http://lists.village.virginia.edu/lists_archive/sixties-l/4167.html ).
